On Sunday 29th September, six Little Athletics SA athletes travelled to the AIS in Canberra to participate in the annual Coles Little Athletics Australia National Under 15 Development Camp. The weekend kicked off with an introduction evening and a presentation on Glenys Nunn and her history in Athletics.
Monday saw the start of the track session at the AIS track and the athletes were treated to coaching sessions with some of Australia’s best coaches, as well as past and current athletes. The afternoon session saw the athletes attend workshops covering Strength and Condition, Injury Prevention, Pool Recovery and Stretching. After another amazing meal in the food hall the group were treated to a talk from 3x Olympian and Shot Put Champion Justin Anlezark and 400m Superstar Angelina Blackburn. This gave the athletes some great insight and inspiration moving forward.
Tuesday was another gorgeous day in Canberra and saw the group back on the track learning more. Another afternoon of theory saw the athletes ready for a Mental Health session in the evening. Team SA showed great enthusiasm throughout and represented the State well. They have no doubt made great friendships with one another and displayed genuine compassion as a team.
Day four was a short day but we had the privilege of listening to Chris Nunn OAM on the importance of making good choices. Once again the SA Athletes were amazing, showing great passion and displayed exemplary behaviour that their clubs and families would be proud of.
Well done to all athletes from all States and best of luck for the coming season and beyond!
