Athlete Pathways

The athlete development pathway is simply the range of events, programs and options available to athletes of different ages as they progress through the sport of athletics. As can be seen below, there are various pathways and opportunities that is available to athletes of different ages:

Athletics SA (ASA)
Athletics SA offers athletics competitions and services for athletes (12 years and above) across a wide variety of ages and abilities, from recreational to elite.  Athletics SA provides track and field events in summer and road running, cross-country running and race walking during winter. SA Masters Athletics (SAMA)

SA Masters Athletics provides ongoing competition programs for mature age athletes, aged 30 and above and caters for people of all athletic abilities. The Association offers a varied program of running, race walking and field events conducted throughout the year. For more information, click here.


SA Athletics League (SAAL)

The South Australian Athletics League is a not for profit organisation who conducts approximately 15 carnivals throughout their season between October and April, with the main event being the Bay Sheffield. Their unique racing format gives athletes of all abilities a chance of winning races in a vibrant, family friendly environment. For more information, click here.


SA Road Runners Club (SAARC)

The South Australian Road Runners Club exists to promote and encourage recreational running and walking in South Australia. SAARC is a not for profit organisation and is open to everyone at any level of ability. For more information, click here.


Trail Running SA (TRSA)

Trail Running SA is an independent, 100% volunteer and not for profit organisation who organise weekly runs and events. The purpose of TRSA is the organisation of off-road running activities which enable runners of all levels and abilities to enjoy running in natural surroundings in a social setting. SA Race Walking Association (SARWC)

The South Australian Race walking operates a winter season, open to all age groups (7 years and above) and abilities, typically between April and September on Saturday afternoons. Race walking, while promoting fitness and competition, is also about fun for people of all ages and abilities.  For more information, click here.


Parkrun

Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs which are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in. These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and are available for people of every ability to take part in. For more information, click here.
