Little Athletics SA – State Team Key Information (For Parents and Athletes) 

The 2026 Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALAC) will be held in Brisbane from 12–14 April 2026. This event features State Representative Teams in the Under 12 and Under 13 age groups.  

Little Athletics South Australia is requiring parents/guardians accompany athletes for the 2026 State Team Trip.  

There is no team stay in 2026. Little Athletics South Australia has organised travel packages through SportsLink Travel, which athletes will select when nominating. This approach ensures families can secure accommodation and flights during a busy period, maintains competitive pricing arranged by SportsLink, and allows Little Athletics SA tThere will be no official team stay in 2026. Any registered South Australian Little Athlete in the Under 12 or Under 13 age group is eligible to nominate for the State Team. Selection is based on the following criteria: 

Eligibility Requirements 

Athletes must: 

  • Be a registered and fully financial member of Little Athletics South Australia (through an affiliated Centre) by 31 December. 
  • Qualify for and compete at the 2025 State Individual Championships (22–23 March). 
  • Nominate for the 2026 Little Athletics SA State Team through the nomination portal by February 22, 2026. 

Team Format 

  • Maximum of 28 boys and 28 girls per age group, plus up to 12 Multi-Class Athletes (per age group). 
  • A maximum of three athletes per event (per gender). 
  • Each athlete may compete in up to six events, including relays. 

Team Selection Summary 

  • Primary selection is based on performances at the State Individual Championships. 
  • Results from other LASA State competitions and ASA events may also be considered. 
  • Preliminary teams are formed by selecting the top-ranked eligible and nominated athletes, up to maximum event allocations. 
  • Minimum performance standards may apply for certain events. 

Compulsory Team Travel Requirements 

A parent or guardian must accompany the athlete on team flights and stay at the designated accommodation for the championship duration. Team management and coaching will be provided at all competition sessions. 

Little Athletics SA has partnered with SportsLink Travel to coordinate group flight and accommodation packages for athletes and parents.  Travel packages will include arrival into Brisbane on Sunday and departure on Tuesday or Wednesday after the competition.  Flexibility is available, including options for families choosing to remain in Brisbane for the Australian Athletic Junior Championships (15–18 April). SportsLink Travel will support these adjustments within group booking arrangements. 

Important: When nominating for the State Team, athletes will be required to indicate their preferred travel package. This is not a payment, and no deposit is required. It simply provides guidance for planning should the athlete be selected.  

Payment for the SportsLink Travel Packages will have to be made to SportsLink by Thursday March 27 following State Team Selection notification on Monday March 23. 

Cancellations or changes after selection must be communicated to Little Athletics SA immediately. Refunds for travel will depend on SportsLink Travel’s booking conditions at the time of cancellation. Team levies and uniform purchases may be refundable only within specified timelines, which will be communicated when payments are made.

Additional Costs 

Selected athletes will be required to cover: 

  • Team Levy: $250-$300*(covers coaches, training, managers, etc.) 
  • State Team Uniform: $300–$350* 

*Prices to be confirmed closer to State Individual Championships 

Estimated Cost – Full State Team Experience 

  • Travel Packages: $1,100–$1,700 per person (pricing varies based on requirements and selected options) 
  • Team Levy: $250-300 
  • Uniform: $300–$350 

While nominations close on February 22 timely communication of any withdrawals or changes to your athlete’s availability is essential. This helps Little Athletics SA finalise team numbers and event allocations accurately ahead of selection and competition.
